The local legends of downstate New York are back with their first studio album since the band's 2015 release 'Transmissions Down'. 'Sleepwalk Me Home' is a great based off the uplifting lyrics and positive message that life has it's good and bad moments, but there is always better days ahead.
As for the sound of the album it comes off as a fast, fun, and energetic sounding punk album and who doesn't love that? Breaking Rad Kicking off this album we have a complete banger that is sure to get you hyped up, getting the energy flowing for the rest of the record. Great opener, very memorable lyrics. One of the best 'sing along' kind of songs. Buried With Children The second track of the record brings us a great melodic track, complete with the 'woah-ohs'. This song begs the question 'have you ever wondered what it feels like when you die?'
Which actually can make you think about what it feels like when you die. Complete with a music video filmed in my hometown. Jerry Gallo's Dead This song has a title based on a quote from the 1992 movie 'My Cousin Vinny'.
As for the track itself, it has a smooth flow, amazing lyrics and rad breakdown in the middle of the song. As a stated before the lyrics for this track are great, dealing with the topics of loneliness and suicide. Common feelings in my people, the way they are addressed make it great. Suns Out, Buns Out A song that details having a great summer after a shitty winter, knowing that even if things are not great at the moment, times change along with how you feel. I can't gurantee if that is the actual meaning of the song but that is what I take from it.
First Time You, First Time Me This song's intro reminds me a lot of early blink-182, the message in this track is a message of unity. 'If we all stand together, we can make this life better if we tried'. It is a simple but strong message of positivity. Definitely a great track!
Gringo Starr Another track that has the message of positivity, this song tells us about being dead with a chance to be alive. It also tells us about how simply taking another look at everything can give you a better grasp on life. War And Piece Of Mind This song in particular means a lot to me, especially with my ongoing issues with anxiety. It means a lot to know that you're not alone in what you go through on a day to day basis, to me there is no better feeling than having people that underdstand and this track does a great job at expressing the feeling of anxiety.
You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Dad Instrumentally one of my favorite tracks on the record, this one is really deep lyrically, tons of melody in this song. The title of the song is great too, a word play on the saying 'You're gonna miss me when I'm dead'. Sleepwalk Me Home The album's title track, this one is about the bass player Bobby's issue with sleepwalking and how it affects him and those around him. A solid track with a killer opening bass line. This is the second to last track on the album and it is closing just as well as it opened up. In The Meantime (Steve's Song) Closing out the record is a tribute song to the drummer Norm's cousin Steve who passed away after a 23 year battle with Cystic Fiberosis. Family and friends of the band can be heard singing along at the end of the song.
There is no better way to end a record than with a memorial song. Conclusion: The Jukebox Romantics released what is this best record to date.
This album pulled so much emotion out of me personally and I recommend it to any one who likes punk/pop punk. Italian punk rockers Thanx 4 All The Shoes are back with their latest album 'Another Ride'.
This is the first we have heard from the band since 2014's 'The World is Not Yours' which featured 11 tracks. As the year is coming to a close this record this record is in the running for being in the top 5 list of best full length records of 2017. One Pen, One Book Starting us off with the first track, right off the bat once I hear the riff and even the drum work I automatically think of bands like Metallica.
More towards the end of the track the riff switches up just a little bit and that is when I heard the Metallica influence in the drums. Great way to begin an album with a track that has a tempo change in the middle, but it picks back up before the end of the track. A truly rad song! Another Ride The record's title track brings the Metallica vibes once again, amazing song as was the first one.
Stellar vocal work complete with both melodic and screaming vocals which is always a great touch in a track, especially early on in the record. Russian Roulette Keeping up the metal-ish riffs and screaming vocals, the third track proves to be the perfect track to mosh to. This is definitely another song that shows off the capabilities of the band, showcasing the vocal range and instrumental range also. This track is definitely a memorable one.
The intro includes a revolver being spun and shot, great addition to this solid track. Son Of The Gun Opening up with a quote from the legendary Clint Eastwood in the 1966 classic 'The Good, The Bad and, The Ugly'. The addition of said quote just goes to show how rad this track is, most likely my favorite track on the record.
The vocal range used for this song is amazing, so with a properly placed quote from Clint Eastwood, and great vocals there's no way that this is not the best track on this album. Hope And Wait This track is totally defining 'thrashing skate punk', I cannot help but to feel that a lot of emotion went into this song. Something about the undertone and lyrical matter leads me to believe that. It takes a lot of emotion to write and perform a song in the first place, but when I say emotion in this case I mean repressed emotion such as pent up anger. If this is true, it is noticable without a doubt. Declaration Of War Almost a complete 180 to the previous tracks, we get yet another headbanger with a excellent riff and complimenting chanting vocals this track hits hard in a good way, going heavy from the beginning to the end. Decade Flipping the script a bit this track is more punk than anything else if you ask me.
The Secret Kingdom Pat Robertson Pdf Merge there. This album so far has had more of a metal vibe to it which is not a bad thing, but to hear more of a punk influence is great. Albums that have variety are the best because you are not hearing something that has the same tone track after track and the band does a great job capturing the variety aspect. 42042 A memorable is what we are given with this one along with some great melodic vocals, makes for a near perfect track, an easy song to sing along with I could imagine this song being a crowd favorite when played live.
Nothing is better than singing along with a band whether it be through record or when you see the band live. A great closer song for a live set. Wasted Life This one has to be a social commentary on how ungrateful people can be, even with all the things they have in their life, with lyrics like 'stop complaining that you don't get shit' the message here is straight forward and simple to not take for granted the things that you are fortunate enough to have instead of worrying about the things that you don't.
Postcard From Kobane To close out this album the track has a slow, calm intro that leads us into our final banger, a track about missing something and being missed. Along with reminiscing on memories this track is very personal and would mean a lot to anyone who is missing something in their life. This song is full of melodic and is a great way to close a great album. Forming in 2016, new Swedish punk rockers Bash Brothers present to us their second ever release as a band. Along with 'S/T' EP that was released February of this year, the band has two releases in 2017 under their belts. Falling Down Kicking off the album.
We have a fast paced banger, really hyping you up. Setting the bsr high for the rest of the album. Great instrumental work from the band, melody is definitely present on this track.
A Part Of Me Hitting just as hard as the first track, track number two brings the heat with some amazing riffing, and fantastic vocals. Definitely a great track to headbang to. At the very least it is hard to not nod your head to this track. Probably, my favorite track on the record. Gone Forever A pretty punk sounding riff opens up this track, this song in particular I can hear the emotion in the screaming backing vocals on the track adds the emotional connection to the listener which is great, having that connection with a listener whether it is live or through a record is extremely important and is presented throughout the whole album, this track in particular.
Just Like You This song features John Harcus of PMX, not only a great feature but a great sounding track. This album started strong and is carrying it all the throughout so far. The feature of John Harcus from PMX was welcomed surprise to say the least. Keeping Me Awake Another appearance by John Harcus on the record, two features in a row.
Considering features on punk albums are rare makes it all the more special, with the addition of John the two songs he is on have that extra boost. Life Lessons The title track from the album still has the fast paced, high energy sound to it, which is no surprise, I love how this album came out.
A great sound that you can connect with and forget about your problems, and jump around to. Suit Yourself The record's seventh track features dual vocals for the hook which came out sounding great. Excellent riffing, drum work, the whole nine yards. Great track, great work on all members of the band, including John Harcus. You Are Fading Away A pretty straighyt forward and relatable track, mixing a relatable track with great sounding instrumental back is always a thumbs up for me, done to perfection is this case. This band has not failed to impress yet on this album.
Nothing but good things to say about this one. Soundcloud Bot Keygenguru. Spending My Time The second to last track showcases the meaning of melodic hardcore in full effect. Yet another headbanger on this album, with spot on vocals yet again. All the energy has shown to follow through the whole record, which I love completely. Immutable Change Closing the album we have one last energetic track, with a punk riff, a great way to end the album. As I expected, no power/energy lost. Started strong and ended strong.
Conclusion: A solid release from a relatively new band, all 10 tracks were great. Definitely can't wait to hear more from Bash Brothers. The feature of PMX's John Harcus was a welcomed surprise.
This band is on the track to big things in the future that is for sure. Final Score: ★★★ ✩ ✩ Review written by: You can download the review in its original format here.
