First the install CD did not autorun, no biggie I looked at what it expected and ran that by double clicking on the program in the CD. It also looked like it was going to be a massive install so I change the path to the D: drive (actually is not that big an install) & stopped my antivirus the install started and bailed out with a 'consult MSDN for further info' and had a link.

Pretty much the link said 'If you're installing a program the SYSTEM user doesn't have rights' but (I paraphrase) It can be a zillion things so don't bother us' Well SYSTEM had the rights so, MSDN didn't wanna hear about it Therefore, Microsoft was not going to be of help. My system was now locked and need not only a cold boot but also a CMOS discharge (pull the plug off press power button count to 20) re plug. Now I start getting methodical.

Back to the CD the setup program right clicked on it on chose to troubleshoot compatibility. Windows 7 reported that yes, we had problems but it would set an environment for it. After some whirls, I was prompted to continue setup but then I got a KERNELL.DLL not found.

I again had to reboot with a CMOS discharge. This time I clicked the msi file, got an error, setup.exe got an error, but as the error screens appeared, I saw the installation screen loading behind them. I close all the error screens, got back to the install. This time I chose the default subdir on my C: drive, as per Microsoft system help (which popped up by itself so it knew I was loading a game) I opened up the games folder (nothing happened there but it didn't hurt) I refuse Directx 9 to be installed (the game insisted it should) clicked continue and voila. I had an full install --- slow compared to my 64bit games - so the XP environment it setup originally was being applied to the install and I assume the program itself when I use it. A GREAT feature that Microsoft has not sold properly. Technically, I have a virtual XP machine running the game).

The program asked for the CD key, I was ready with the upgrade (thanks to the other fellow who got it to work) a very quick run and I am shown the setup screen. And I am running with NO PROBLEMS. The demo really impressed me so the game left me stunned as to how cool it was. It is a shame Ubisoft seems to have given up on the program. I don't know how many people would have the patience to spend 2 hours installing a game but being a techno person to me THAT was a game in itself.

BTW calling Ubisoft will not help and Microsoft tells you from the start to forget it. So if you're no the patient methodical person, this is not your typical Windows 7 install this is more like Windows 3.1 when I installed AMI. But if you put the time, the reward is HUGE. I received the game today (Nov 3, 2012) and it comes updated with the newest patch (Version 1.03). You don't need to update or install any patches.

The game plays without having the CD in the drive. The game installed easily and flawlessly. I was able to immediately begin playing games. I found a difficulty level compatible with my chess skills.

The games are fun and the program has so much more additional things to offer than just play games. I am still learning about all the features such as training, analysis, recorded tournament matches, ect.

I first bought Chessmaster Challenger, which was an old software program that was very disapointing. So I bought Chessmaster 10th edition hoping it would be better. It is fantastic. The graphics are wonderful.

The Learning/Training Area has so many ways to improve my chess game; from learning from videos to puzzles. It will post analyze the games I played. Help me during games with hints etc. You can watch games. Even has a fun area for kids.

I can play the rating games where I can't get help or hints so I can see what my rating really is! The list is long on the many ways you can change settings. I play a few games and from my skill level I found the games challenging and the opponents realistic. The game was sent very quickly and package well.
