Fiat Punto Drivers Door Wont Lock
I don't care for the inside door handle or locking mechanism on the 500 Sport. The door handles on the inside feel like cheap plastic, not something made for heavy sustained use. I assume they are all the same. It feels cheap when you press the inside door handle to lock it. And the only way the door can be locked from the outside is with the remote or the key. Based on other cars I've owned, my preferred way is to open the door, hit the door lock button (on the inside) and then get out and close the door.
On the Fiat you can't push the handle into the lock position while the door is open. This may be a bit nit picky but regardless I don't care for it. Having locked my keys in several cars in the past, it's very easy to do when you don't have a way to prevent this. Even cars like my old Hondas where you can pull the inside door lever, slide the lock to lock and then shut the door. I locked my keys inside of my Civic once by leaving them sitting on the seat, flipped the inside driver's door, slid the lock and slammed the door shut, right when I remembered where I'd put the keys. Had to retrieve the spare key to the house, get in, set off the alarm by accident, had to wait by the phone when the alarm people called to let them know who I was and disarm the alarm before I could calla lock smith. $45 later and I had my keys. Parent's were out of town and it was after 10PM and I'd just come home from night classes and was tired. Today, I just use the remote fob where available and be done with worrying if I'd locked the keys inside.

My Ford Ranger truck lets me lock the door from the inside and then shut the door and I'm surprised I've not locked my keys inside of it yet. Besides, how hard is it to push a button on a fob? My Chryslers won't let you activate the power locks if the key is in the ignitiion, but will once you pull the key out far enough to stop the chime from ringing.
