Motion Computing Reinstall
My Motion CL-900 tablet forgets or loses the Atheros AR6003 wireless adapter when I start up after shutting down the tablet under Windows 8 RTM; it worked fine under the Consumer Preview and Release Preview. The wireless adapter is NOT lost after simply restarting the tablet. I have to reinstall the driver after each shutdown because the CL-900 doesn't recognize that there is ANY WLAN hardware onboard. I'm using driver version 3.1.2.85 (dated May 24, 2012) which is the latest Windows 7 version provided by Motion Computing on their website. I have installed and re-installed many times using various troubleshooting steps. For example, setting the driver setup to Windows 7 compatibility mode and also installing earlier versions of the driver (3.2.1.78).
Has anyone been able to get wireless working reliably across shutdowns on their Motion CL-900? Hi, I had similar issues there are two options • if you have driver setup extract the package and then run setup marking it as Windows 7 compatible option (which dosent works in your case) • The best option is to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro along with application and settings and this works well, during this process it detecs the driver and dosent prompts it as not supported. I personaly had this issue with Lenovo A70 system and both the tricks resolved the issue. With Regards Vikash Rai. I loaded an HP Slate 2 yesterday with Windows 8 and was having the same issues. After trying all the suggestions above it was still not behaving.

This morning I went to teh advanced section of the driver and un-checked the 'allow windows to power down to save battery'. So far after doing that the wifi is now stable. Give it a try and let us knwo if you see the same result. After working with the tablet a while, it does NOT work reliably. Seems as though it works longer while on AC power than battery but not sure.
Still searching for solution. I have Dell Latitude ST and when I installed Preview of Windows 8, only problem I had was N-trig drivers which I was able to fix. But when I installed official windows 8 everything went to hell. At first it would not recognize wireless drives, then it would not run drivers from Dell, after finding different drivers I was able to install, the wireless would go into limited connection after few minutes from boot up.
Then restart would fail because windows couldn't power down wireless. I tried all the tricks suggested above, and I ended up going back to prerelease version and it works good. So why is product that I paid for works worse than a free prerelease of it?
If it works with prerelease, then it should work with final product! Hi: Experiencing the same issue I called Motion Computing and discovered that how you shut down the tablet effects whether WLAN comes back up or not. If, from the tiled start screen you drag your finger from the right to left to open the side bar and then select setting and shutdown from there the tablet shuts down and on re-powering up the tablet the WLAN card works correctly. Something to try until they get the Aethros 6003 drivers updated. When logininng out from the user and then shutting down from the loggin screen. The tablet on next power up requires re-install of the WLAN drivers.
That makes sense, over the last week I had only been experiencing the symptom occasionally but that lines up with the time I discovered that the shut down option you describe and have generally been using that. The only Windows8 issues I am now scratching my head about is that the screen sometimes changes orientation while I am using it when the tablet is sitting upright on a table - i.e. Problem with the accelerometer driver?
Also, anyway to make the pen input smaller or opaque so you can see more of the screen real-estate when using pen input? Thanks so much BCrossen and tgillies, I have 25 of the motion CL900, migrated all to win8 just to have the exact same issue with disappearing and reappearing WLAN cards. If it's missing, first turn off 'Fast Start Up' for a full shutdown. This can be found in Control Panel>Power Options>Choose what the power button does>Change settings that are currently unavailable>Shutdown Settings. Then shutdown the tablet using the sidebar>settings>shut down. Power on and it will still be missing, so use sidebar>settings>restart. Tablet will reboot WITH wifi ON.

I know that installing Windows 7 is possible on this machine, as there are several posts on the forum from those who have one.
Does anyone know how to remedy this? Thanks for the link, but it leads directly to the Phoenix homepage even when signed in. The listing for BIOS updates listed in their database for Motion Computing contains an update for the M1400 and a older update. That's why I am stumped with this. Both the manufacturer Motion Computing and the BIOS maker Phoenix have no information to assist as they feel the computer is too old and should be replaced. As soon as they can send me a free one I will replace it.
Until then it would be nice to use what I got. All I really need is a way to bypass this check when Windows installs. Is this possible? Similar help and support threads Thread Forum I looked here in Seven Forums for this known error and have found some threads about it. However, none of them had a solution of any kind, and that's why I'm creating this new thread. I am having the exact same issue, and I hope to find a solution because it's really annoying by now.
Gaming I have two computers that are running Win XP Home and one that is running Win Xp Media Center Edition. Will I have any problems upgrading the Win Xp Media Center Edition?
