I'm a working tech doing a lot of over the phone support to sytems sight unseen. One item that is a continual anoyance is wether the enduser has switched on/off the wireless radio.

This has to be one of the least standardized items of the decade. To help others and I hope gather some new information I subit the following for what it's worth. Here is the latest update that I have at work. If anyone has a laptop make or model that is not on this list, please let me know and I will add it as time permits. KMC Wireless Radio Switches Toggles & Key Combinations For 802.11(x) Equipped Computers Compiled by Kevin M. Childers kchilder@removed to protect from spambots _____________________________________________________________________________ For Windows Based Computers If the drivers for the wireless adapter contain a setting to toggle wireless radio, it can be located using the following path: Start >Settings >Control Panel >Right click Wireless Network Connection Icon >Properties >Configure >Advanced tab Here you will find a textbox with a list of selectable properties that are populated by the device driver. Once you select a property there will be a value field with a dropdown box containing configuration options that apply to that specific property.

The name of the wireless radio property may vary because the listed properties are dependent on each specific device driver. It should be fairly intuitive to determine the correct property if you simply have the user read all the listed properties to you.

Many Laptop manufacturers will place a physical switch on the outside casing of the Laptop, so that the user can easily toggle wireless radio. Sometimes these switches get accidentally turned off, or intentionally turned off and the end user forgets to switch it Back.

The best practice in these situations is to ask the user to look for a physical switch on the case of the Laptop, possibly with a symbol of a radio tower next to it. After turning the wireless switch on, the user will probably need to refresh their network list. Laptops built by certain manufacturers may have a specific keystroke set up to toggle the wireless radio on/off. May 19, 2010 Hi, I have a packard bell easynote gn45 and it suddenly wont connect to wifi. This just started today. I haven't done anything different to the laptop.

Below is a listing by manufacturer of wireless radio software and hardware toggles that we have been able to document: ACER Acer (General) - Fn+F5 Aspire 1000/1640Z/1690/2012 - Launch Keys above the keyboard Aspire 16xx (General) the satellite-like launch button above the keyboard Aspire 2000 Series (less Aspire 2012, See Above) - Button on the Front of the Laptop Aspire 3005 on the lower right-hand side of your laptop Aspire 3500 - Aspire 4520 - top of keyboard right below the power button, the far left one is the wireless button. Aspire 5612 sliding button on the side of the laptop Aspire 9302 the blue button on the left-hand side of the laptop Aspire 94xx (General) the key found below the Lock key Aspire One, in the lower right corner of the palm rest is a small strip with a picture of an antenna on it. An LED to the right of the strip lights to indicate the wireless is turned on. BTW, there is no real network that I am aware of with an SSID (named) 'Free Public WiFi'. I have been working for a company with an international clientel. Many's the time an end user has called with a connection issue, on a public network and when asked what the network name is, replied, 'Free Public WiFi.' As far as I have been able to research, it is a remnant of some long gone Peer-To-Peer network that windows machines love to broadcast ad nauseum.

Further more, not every place has wireless/wired connections for visitors/guest or in all areas. When in doubt, check with the staff.

Paragon Extfs For Windows Crackers. Most hotels have paid tech support for thier network to assist guest. Call them first and they can usually get you online. Calling company IT first may or may not, and often entails a call to the locations tech support anyway. Also if your company requires andy and all internet conenctions be made via a VPN connection, they usually have to authenticate your computer onto their network, manually. Good luck all you roadwarriors out there, we're here to back you up anyway we can. Your IT support team.

Hi, Check with Packard Bell, their on-line documentation, and driver. Update the BIOS, low level chipset drivers, and the major on-board and separate device drivers.

Especially the network drivers. Packard Bell Check with the router maker for updated firmware. (This may be needed even if other devices are working well.) ========================================================= Wired and Wireless Connection Problems Note using Win Key + X and Win Key + W (to get to Control Panel, Run, and Settings as needed). Win Key + D calls the desktop and the using Win Key toggles Desktop and Start Screen. -------------------------------------------------------------- Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center - Troubleshoot Problems References to Vista also apply to Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Your router would be suspect here, have you updated its firmware as a possible solution? And I would update your WiFi drivers on the computers. How far are you positioned from the router? Are there obstructions in the way? Try actually updating your driver and clearing the network logon. Control Panel - Network - write down make and model of Wifi - double click on it - driver's tab - write down version - click Update Driver (may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers). Then Right Click on Wifi Device and UNINSTALL - Reboot - this will refresh the driver stack. Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.

Microsoft - Windows 8 - How do I fix network adapter problems? (Be sure to see this section ->Update the network adapter driver.) Microsoft - Windows 8 - Hardware and Drivers Microsoft - Windows 8 - Why isn't Windows finding my device? Microsoft - Windows 8 - What if a device isn't installed properly Download - SAVE - go to where you put it - Right Click - RUN AS ADMIN. You can download several at once however reboot after you install each one. After looking at the System Maker's you can check Device Maker's for even newer versions.

(The ones from System maker become your fallbacks). Pular Manju Pole Mp3 Free Download. Repeat above for network card (NIC) and is a good time to get other updated drivers as Windows 8 loves updated drivers.

------------------------------------------------------ Make sure you know the login details for your wireless router - SSID and Password. You will lose connection when doing this and have to redo your logon.
