Kontext - Blinkende Stjerne '08:43:: i N F O:: After the great response to ~scape’s first survey of the creative cross-fertilisation of Dubstep and Techno, ”Round Black Ghosts” enters its second round. Yet again, Stefan Betke (Pole), Barbara Preisinger and Tim Tetzner join forces to scent out exceptional examples of Dubstep skirting the boundaries of Techno and other flavours of electronic music.
The result: eleven defining and definitive tracks of a musical (r)evolution that has moved far beyond its London origins, reflected in the huge variety of nationalities assembled on this CD – our journey takes us from L.A. And Bristol to Bucharest and St. The emergence of a creative „axis” between London and Berlin adds to the relevance of this compilation. Among its figureheads: former Londoner and new Berliner Scuba who jumped the Channel in 2007 and contributes a previously unreleased track, ”Bleach”, to ”Round Black Ghosts Vol. His club night ”Sub.Stance”, at Berlin’s legendary Techno haven Berghain, has become THE point of reference for the latest Techno/Dubstep crossover. Other contributing producers with strong collaborative ties to Berlin’s musicians, labels and mastering studios include Appleblim and Ramadanman.
In this growing and ever-evolving network, ~scape fills a pivotal role: with in-house legend Pole, collaborations by artists like Shackleton and Peverelist and, last but not least, this vital compilation. The Artists: Peverelist & Appleblim – Circling: Bristol‘s all-star duo Peverelist and Appleblim not only spearhead the Dubstep and Techno crossover, but also share the decks as the ”Skull Disco Soundsystem”. Their track ”Circling” adds a slice of pure, ear-warming underwater dub to the mix. Www.skulldisco.com TRG – Ghetto Romance: TRG (aka Cosmin Nicolae) hails from the Romanian capital of Bucharest. Far from London, the genre’s epicentre, he perfects his own interpretation of Dubstep and UK Garage. TRG’s melancholic ”Ghetto Romance” serves up fleeting flickers of 2Step and Hip-Hop, briefly materialised in fragmented breakbeats and Jazz samples.
Www.myspace.com/subwaydubstep Zed Bias – The Cauldron (Instrumental): Zed Bias could easily pass for the father of Dubstep: his dark and jazzy 2Step sound has left a strong mark on the current generation of Dubstep producers. Now, after an extended detour into Broken Beats as ”Maddslinky”, he returns to his home turf with ”The Cauldron”, a slinky black masterpiece of subterranean deepness. Www.biasphere.co.uk Scuba – Bleach: The heart and mind behind the „Hotflush” label, Paul Rose aka Scuba has been a vital driver of the Dubstep evolution. Relocated from London to Berlin, his latest brainchild, the ”Sub. Free Download Resident Evil 5 Game Full Version For Pc. Stance” club nights at Berlin’s Berghain, reinforce the vibrant exchange between Dubstep’s twin breeding grounds.
With ”Bleach” he explores the synthesis between cinematic soundscapes and Berlin’s stark Techno aesthetic. Www.myspace.com/paulhotflush Pole - Alles Gute The founder of scape and co-compiler of Round Black Ghosts contributes his version of an outstanding dubby bass track again. 'Alles Gute' is also available on the recently released scape 12inch 'Alles Gute / Alles klar' (sc56). Www.scape-music.de Martyn – Vancouver: D.C.-based Dutchman Martyn is a specialist for warmly pulsating body music and provides the missing musical link between London, Detroit and Kingston with his equally international ”Vancouver”. Ramadanman – Blimey: Ramadanman’s „Hessle Audio” label has become the leading address for visionary experiments between Dubstep and Techno.

”Blimey” serves as an excellent example of his percussive and minimalist production approach. Www.hessleaudio.com Untold – Yukon: Atmospheric depth, floating bass and molecular beat structures: Untold’s „Yukon” retraces the steps of Photek and proves that the science of breakbeats translates well to the 21st century. Www.hemlockrecordings.co.uk Kode9 Vs. Badawi – Den of Drumz: „Den of Drumz” by Hyperdub boss Kode9 and legendary Dub alchemist Badawi (aka Raz Mesinai) is a Dubstep classic and the perfect symbiosis between hard- hitting percussion riffs, hypnotic bass lines and Kode9’s trademark harmonica. Www.roir-usa.com Martyn – Natural Selection (Flying Lotus RMX): On this track, L.A.-based convention-defying Hip-Hop revolutionary and Alice Coltrane grandnephew Flying Lotus gives Martyn’s robot Dub anthem ”Natural Selection” the remix treatment with plenty of bleeps, cuts and video game sounds. Kontext – Blinkende Stjerne: Kontext is the alias of Stanislav Sevostyanikhin from St.
Petersburg, otherwise known as ”Dissident” in Drum&Bass circles. His ”Blinkende Stjerne” takes us on a dream-like trip to unknown spheres between Dubstep, Electronica and minimal Techno.
